Dir. Haifaa Al Mansour 2012 UK Drama Cert PG 97 mins|
Join us for our October Pay as You Feel screening of Saudi Arabian trailblazer Wadjda, a film chosen for the community, by the community, in partnership with Yalla Hub.
When the parents of Wadjda, a spirited 10-year-old living in Riyadh, refuse to buy her a bicycle, she decides to enter a Quran recitation competition at her school in the hope of winning enough money to buy her own.
Earnest but gently optimistic, and full of flashes of humour, Haifaa al Mansours debut film illuminates the restrictions faced by women throughout Saudi Arabia, whilst also presenting its young protagonist as defiant and fabulously indefatigable.
After the screening, Yalla Hub will be discussing the work they do with migrant and BAME women.
There is no fixed price for this event. Simply pay what you think it's worth, either online (£2 minimum) or on the door. 25% of your donations will go to Yalla Hub.
